The difficulties of living as a Muslim in Germany

Burhan Qurbani

Burhan Qurbani says the timing of Shahada's release was accidental

A film about the difficulties of living as a Muslim in Germany is contributing to the discussion there about multiculturalism.

Chancellor Merkel said last month that her country's multicultural approach had failed.

The film, Shahada, which opened in Berlin last month and is now touring film festivals worldwide, tells the stories of various young German Muslims struggling with the bounds of Islamic convention.

Its director is Burhan Qurbani, who is German and from an Afghan family.
