'How can a mother forget her children?'
Introduction
It was only after the signing of the peace accords in El Salvador
that the search for missing children could begin in earnest. A group
of human rights volunteers formed the Asociaci贸n Pro-B煤squeda
de los Ni帽os (the Association for the Search for Missing Children,

'I
lived for so long thinking I didn't have a mother and now
as an adult, I find she and other members of my family are
alive. I feel like my life has begun again, as if I'm growing
up all over again. It's something I just cannot explain' (Ricardo)
'I never stopped wondering about my children. I spent the
entire twelve years of the war thinking about them and went
on doing so when it ended. I always said that one day I would
find out if they were alive or dead. How can a mother forget
