On the 20th July 1969 the world heard the phrase 'The Eagle has landed'. A few hours later, Neil Armstrong took his first steps on the surface of the moon.
Most people alive in 1969 can remember exactly where they were and what they were doing when the pictures from the moon were first beamed around the world.
For Jean Francois Clervoy, it was a life-changing moment. He watched the moon landings on television as a child.
Jean Francois is now an astronaut for the European Space Agency and has flown into space three times.
He told Outlook's Ritula Shah how the 1969 moon landings had inspired his choice of career.
