The economic downturn is causing more and more people to start looking for jobs.
But does the way you look really affect your chances of getting work?
Ed Smith thinks so. He works as a body guard - protecting America's rich and famous as they go about their daily business.
Ed has worked in the security industry for years. He used to work for the American security services but says he he wasn't getting work because he looked too old.
Ed is 53 and - despite his experience - thought that younger-looking people were being offered the jobs instead.
Rather than deciding to move to a different line of work, Ed decided to take drastic action.
He says he spent $12,000 on cosmetic work, to make him look younger.
He explained to Outlook's Jonathan Charles that in his industry, it's important to look the part.
