When singer Lou Jing entered the Chinese TV talent show Go Oriental Angel she was proud to be representing her city of Shanghai.
But she didn't expect to became the subject of abusive internet comments about her skin colour - some of them telling her to "get out of China".
Twenty year old Lou Jing is from a mixed race background, leading some viewers to cruelly call her "no oriental angel."
The daughter of a Chinese mother and an African American father, she and her family were shocked by the reaction of the Chinese public.
Matthew Bannister spoke to Lou Jing about her experiences and her new career co-presenting a programme called "new surfing the intelligence."
