Until spring 2006 Ian Clayton was in many ways a lucky man - a successful writer and broadcaster, and the father of two happy and healthy children. However his luck was to change when he took a short holiday in Wales with his family.
While in Hay-on-Wye, Ian took his nine year old twins Billie and Edward out on the river in a canoe hired from two local men.
However Ian didn't know that this was the pair's first day in business and that they were inexperienced on the river - they hadn't canoed there for almost a year, and they didn't know how fast the water was flowing.
As Ian and his two children were out on the river, the canoe capsized and all three struggled to survive in the water.
Ian tried hard to save his children, but while he managed to rescue his son, Edward, he was unable to find his daughter Billie, who was sadly drowned.
Now Ian has written a book about what happened, and how the tragedy has affected him and his family.
When Roger Hearing spoke to Ian and asked him how the writing of Billie's story helped him come to terms with her death, Ian began by describing the aftermath of accident.
Ian Clayton's book Our Billie is out now, published by Penguin in the UK
