First Arab woman to reach the North Pole

Elham al Qasimi was born in the arid heat of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.

At just 27, she left her job as an investment manager and set out to become the first Arab woman to reach the North Pole.

Skiing 60 miles across shifting ice, Elham faced temperatures of minus 30 and suffered frostbite on her nose before reaching latitude 90, the northernmost tip of the world. It took her just eight days.

Elham, now back in London, came into the Outlook studio to explain the appeal of this most distant of places.
