Earlier this year video footage said to show an American Apache helicopter firing on a group of Iraqis in Baghdad was posted on the whistle-blowing website WikiLeaks.
In the video, which is said to date from 2007, the pilots see what they decide is a group of around eight insurgents on a street and attack them using the Apache's cannon.
It is thought that at least 12 people, including some civilians, were killed.
In the footage taken from the cockpit US ground troops can be seen trying to help the injured.
One of the soldiers on the ground that day was Ethan McCord.
He was one of the first to arrive at the scene of the attack, and says that what he found changed his attitude to the war in Iraq and to serving in the American army.
He has now left the army, and has shared his experiences in a new documentary called Incident in New Baghdad.
On Outlook Ethan gave his version of what happened that day.
His descriptions include scenes that you may find disturbing.
The interview with Ethan McCord is taken from the documentary Incident in New Baghdad, by James Spione.
