At the age of nineteen Venezuelan beauty queen Eva Ekvall seemed to have it all.
She'd been crowned Miss Venezuela and had come fourth in the Miss Universe contest.
That exposure had propelled her into a successful career as a television presenter and journalist.
But less than ten years later, after the birth of her daughter, Eva was diagnosed with breast cancer.
She took the courageous decision to allow a well known photographer, Roberto Mata, to follow the progress of her treatment.
The photos he took are in stark contrast to her beauty queen poses. She had a double mastectomy and is shown bald and pale from the effects of chemotherapy.
She says from one month to the next she didn't recognise herself in the mirror. The photos have been published in a book called Fuera de Foco, or Out of Focus. It has become a bestseller in Venezuela.
Eva spoke to Outlook's Matthew Bannister and she told him how she got into modelling as a teenager.
First broadcast on 22 March 2011
