Alfred Bradley Bursary Award

The Alfred Bradley Bursary Award is a £5,000 writing bursary for writers based in the North of England who are new to writing for audio.

It's not the first time that the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Writersroom have been an instrumental part in changing my career for the better. That's not an understatement.

The Award was established in 1992 to commemorate the life and work of Alfred Bradley, the distinguished ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio Drama Producer. Initially run by ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio Drama North in collaboration with ´óÏó´«Ã½ Writersroom, from 2025 the Award is managed by ´óÏó´«Ã½ Culture, Music and Arts North in collaboration with ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 4.

Previous winners include Lee Hall (Billy Elliot, War Horse), Peter Straughan (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, The Debt), Cat Jones (Doctors, Waterloo Road) and Furquan Akhtar (The Bay series 3, Wolfe) who have all gone on to have huge success across radio, TV and film.

From 2025, The Alfred Bradley Bursary Award is managed by ´óÏó´«Ã½ Culture, Music and Arts North in collaboration with ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 4.
