Florence and the Machine

Little Noise line-up

Editors, Florence and the Machine and The Maccabees for Mencap charity shows
23ÌýSeptemberÌý2009Ìý-ÌýMencap have announced the line up for the Little Noise sessions in November at London's Union Chapel.

Editors, Mika, Lost Prophets, Taio Cruz and Florence and the Machine will headline the five shows.

The event is curated by Radio One's Jo Whiley for the charity, which helps people with learning disabilities and their families.

Whiley told 6 Music about the first night of the series, which kicks of on 16 November.

"We've got the return of Editors, The Maccabees who are just lovely and will work so well in the Union Chapel, as will Bombay Bicycle Club, and Everything Everything - a really new exciting band - which is what we like to do, mix it up with the established artists and new bands that are emerging."
"Different smatterings of different kinds of gigs, they will be happening over the next year, yes."
Jo Whiley

The night she branded "rock night", on 20 November, will see a headline performance from Lost Prophets with the final night playing host to Florence and the Machine, Golden Silvers and Eric Hassle.

"Florence up there in the pulpit with her flaming red hair will be as fabulous as she always is," Whiley said about the 2009 Mercury Prize nominee.

This year, there's a definite swing towards attracting a younger audience with Taio Cruz joined by grime star Tinchy Stryder and rapper Chipmunk, all billed for the penultimate night on 21 November.

Whiley said the R 'N' B, urban night is something organisers haven't done before - butÌýshe thinks their music, when re-worked acoustically, "is going to work beautifully."

The work Mencap supports is a cause close toÌýthe presenter'sÌýheart because she has a sister with learning difficulties and the presenter revealed there could be more Little Noise events on the cards.

"I don't want to do it on a regular basis because I think it would lose the charm but there are quite a few bands who can't do the dates we've got fixed here, who want to do something for us, so different smatterings of different kinds of gigs, they will be happening over the next year yes," she explained.
