大象传媒 Trust - Trust launches review of 大象传媒 radio services in the devolved nations

Date: 11.10.2010     Last updated: 23.09.2014 at 09.48
The 大象传媒 Trust has today begun its service review of the 大象传媒's national radio stations in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

This review will cover 大象传媒 Radio Ulster, Radio Foyle, 大象传媒 Radio Scotland, 大象传媒 Radio nan G脿idheal, 大象传媒 Radio Wales and 大象传媒 Radio Cymru. A 12-week period of consultation begins today, with licence fee payers being given the opportunity to give their views on these services. The Trust will use this consultation, alongside a range of other data and audience research, to decide whether it needs to make changes to improve the radio stations.

The Trust will look at the quality, distinctiveness and value for money of these stations and ask whether the 大象传媒's future plans are robust and deliverable. A final report setting out the conclusions and any necessary changes the Trust will be making will be published in 2011.

To ensure licence fee payers are getting the best out of the 大象传媒, the Trust reviews every 大象传媒 service at least every five years.

大象传媒 Trust Chairman, Sir Michael Lyons, said:

"Over two million listeners tune into these radio stations each week. Part of the Trust's job is to make sure the 大象传媒 is serving all audiences around the UK, so we want to hear from as many of these listeners as possible with their thoughts on the services. We want to know what they like, what they dislike and what, if anything, the 大象传媒 should do to make these radio stations better."

Radio Scotland is a speech-led station designed to cover a range of issues that reflect the culture and interests of the people in Scotland. Radio nan G脿idheal, a service for Gaelic speakers in Scotland, broadcasts music and news with a Gaelic perspective. Radio Ulster/Foyle is a speech-led service which covers life and culture within Northern Ireland. Radio Wales is again a speech-led service, reflecting the interests of people in Wales. Radio Cymru is a station that broadcasts music and speech for Welsh speakers.

The public consultation will run until 12 January 2011. It is available on the Trust's website (www.bbc.co.uk/bbctrust) or by calling 0800 0680 116 (textphone 0800 0153 350).
