Editorial Standards finding on Newsnight, 大象传媒 Two, 2 November 2012

On Wednesday 19 December the Trust published a finding by its Editorial Standards Committee (ESC) on the edition of Newsnight broadcast on 2 November 2012.

A combination of the programme, which included a report on child sexual abuse in North Wales care homes in the 1970s and 1980s, and online speculation, led to Lord McAlpine being wrongly identified online in relation to child sexual abuse allegations.

The finding includes:

  • The finding from the Trust鈥檚 Editorial Standards Committee.
  • A report from the 大象传媒 Executive for the Trust in response to a number of questions from the Trust about the circumstances surrounding the 2 November Newsnight
  • The MacQuarrie report commissioned by the then Director-General, George Entwistle, in the aftermath of the programme鈥檚 broadcast. A summary of actions and findings from this report was published聽by the 大象传媒 Executive on 12 November.
