Reading band OK Tokyo have been one of those buzz bands ever since they formed in 2007. The trio enjoyed their third ever gig at Glastonbury last year after winning a slot on the 大象传媒 Introducing stage. And now they're releasing a single in March 2008 called You Better Believe It, which they mastered at the legendary Abbey Road studios.
大象传媒 Berkshire catch up with Sammy Tokyo below: What news have you to report from the OK Tokyo camp?"Good things are happening to us. We have been in the studio finishing some new tracks. We have a single coming out end of March and we go on the road throughout March with Mumm-Ra and will also be doing a few Club NME shows around the country. "Other than that Jonny (bassist) is still satisfying an inner yearning to discover more about the Napoleonic wars and Matty (drummer) is literally spending hours trying to complete his first Rubik's Cube. He'll try it, then throw it away, and then runs back into its arms like a wounded lover." OK Tokyo (C) Chris Harris How did you get the single deal?"A few guys from Split Records in London had been tracking our stuff on MySpace for a while and decided to put out our single. "And luckily we managed to get Rob (Bloomfield, drummer) from Does It Offend You, Yeah? to remix the song for the B-side of our single. "The first single will be You Better Believe It. And that's not a statement of our musical ability, it's something that was said in one of those relationship things." Tell me about this tour with Mumm-Ra."We managed to blag our way on through some of our mates. "Should be carnage with a few Rs thrown in for good measure. Carnarrrge. "It'll be our first real proper trash around the great venues of this fine land. We hopefully will be on the road all through March. I'm looking forward to pies at 6am and sleeping rough in lay-bys. Sammy Tokyo in action "Me and Matty are talking about building a little nest in the back of the van but that's probably way too much information." What was it like at Abbey Road studios?"We practised the ancient art of mastering at Abbey Road. Basically, getting the tracks ready for radio. Some lab coat technician dude basically caressed some massive dials and it made it sound nice and delicate. "It was obviously amazing to think that we were going somewhere that is steeped in such history. Me, Matty and Jonny crawled across the Abbey Road crossing. It was our own homage to The Beatles. "They also served very cold lager on draught, which is a pleasant thing." Do you feel like superstars yet?"We wake up everyday and imagine we are somewhere else. We want to take over the world. We are not superstars, but that's a place where we want to end up." last updated: 15/03/2008 at 18:05 SEE ALSOYou are in: Berkshire > Entertainment > Local bands > Bulletin Board > OK Tokyo release single |
