Performing music - delivering the ensemble performance

Extra factors for an ensemble performance

  • Be organised. Get to the performance venue early and have a run through beforehand.
  • Don鈥檛 forget things like your music. It might be worth carrying spares for the other players in your ensemble!
  • Other members of your ensemble could be more or less nervous than you. Make some time to reassure each other. If you need to spend some time away from each other leading up to the recording, then make sure you do that as well.
  • Don鈥檛 rehearse all the way up to the recording time. Make sure you take a break.
  • During the recording, make eye contact with the other performers. This will help ease nerves, and a smile or two will do the same!

Make sure you have checked the marking criteria for your ensemble performance. These vary between exam boards, but the basic elements are similar to those for solo performance:

  • technical ability
  • communication and interpretation
  • difficulty

Don鈥檛 forget that you are all in this together and that although you are a crucial part of your ensemble you must communicate with your fellow players.

Good luck!
