The Normans - exam preparation - EdexcelExplain why… (12 marks)

In your History GCSE, it is important that you not only have good subject knowledge, but have the skills to apply this knowledge to exam questions.

Part of HistoryNormans

Explain why… (12 marks)

This type of question is focussing on causation – the reasons why something happened. It is also assessing your knowledge of the period. You will be given stimulus points to prompt you in the right direction.

Example:

Explain why there was a disputed succession to the English throne when William I died.

You may use the following in your answer:

  • Normandy
  • Bishop Odo

You must also use your own knowledge

Tips:

Discuss a number of reasons why the succession was disputed, and explain each reason carefully. Keep linking back to the question by using the keywords.

Don’t forget to go beyond the stimulus material provided – if you don’t you limit the marks you can be given.
