Blues music has had a huge influence on almost every style. The inherent simplicity of the structure has given artists the opportunity to express their music ideas freely within a framework that can be interpreted in so many different ways. Many contemporary performers of styles as diverse as hip hop, grime and cite blues music and blues musicians as key informants for their work.

Jazz continues to evolve from its roots in African American music and is now a global style. Contemporary groups such as Snarky Puppy have pushed the boundaries of jazz in new directions using contemporary instruments and music production techniques to create unique sound worlds that challenge listeners today in new ways.

Like the blues, the sound worlds that jazz offers have been attractive to artists in other and interesting that have even seen classical and jazz artists working together.
