Giving and receiving feedback

It鈥檚 important to show your work at various stages of its development. Ideas you thought were clear may not be as obvious to someone who wasn鈥檛 there when the initial ideas were discussed.

Feedback from others can be a useful way to help you evaluate your progress and identify areas for improvement.

If you鈥檙e giving feedback to others it鈥檚 important to frame your comments in a positive way; this is called constructive criticism. Try and suggest ways that the performers and director can improve the production rather than just being critical.

For example:

I loved the energy of the entrance which really grabbed my attention. However, the next scene is a little static. I think the stillness works for the monologue but maybe you could consider more movement around the stage beforehand to create contrast and add interest.

Or

I really like the idea of鈥ut I didn鈥檛 quite understand鈥

When others have worked hard to create drama it is important to be sensitive, helpful and diplomatic!
