A creationist explains his beliefs
Description
Paul Taylor, a creationist, provides his interpretation of what is written about creation in the Book of Genesis. He provides his thoughts on the age of the universe, the fossil record and what a group of eminent scientists believe in. He talks about Christian fideism and why faith does not need evidence or reason. He asserts that his faith is evidence.
Classroom Ideas
Some prior introduction to the issues of science and religion, and the creationist/evolutionist viewpoint should take place before viewing this clip. A more detailed look at the Biblical story of creation in Genesis would also be useful. Ask students to form questions that they would pose to a creationist before viewing. After viewing, ask students whether they think he answered these questions. An alternative approach is to research the creation stories of other religions. Then discuss whether or how different beliefs relate to each other. Where they differ, is it possible to decide which is true and which is not? If faith itself can be treated as evidence, how can differing faiths be reconciled?
