Using 鈥榙e鈥 to show possession in Spanish

In English, the possessive s is used to show possession.

For example:

This is Alba鈥檚 book.

The possessive 鈥榮' after Alba indicates that the book belongs to Alba.

To show possession in Spanish, use de meaning 'of'.

For example:

Este es el libro de Alba.

This translates directly as 鈥榯his is the book of Alba鈥, although 鈥榯his is Alba鈥檚 book鈥 is a better translation. Here are some more examples:

El boli de Daniel - Daniel鈥檚 pen

Este es el m贸vil de mi hermano. - This is my brother鈥檚 phone.

Los coches de mis padres. - My parents鈥 cars.
