Speaker 1: Hello, Lauretta. Now, today you have 7 people in for a full leg wax and 4 people in for face treatments.
Speaker 2: Do you want me to sort the strips out for them?
Speaker 1: Would you mind, yes please, that would be good.
Now, the large ones are 12cm by 6cm, and then the smaller ones for the face are 6cm by 3cm.
Speaker 2: Yeah, that's fine.
Speaker 1: Could you give me those?
Speaker 2: Thank you.
Speaker 1: So thank you.
Speaker 2: (TO AUDIENCE) Right, so I know for a face treatment we need 4 small strips, and the small wax strips are made up by cutting up the larger strips.
I have to measure out how many small strips I can get out of a larger strip.
I'll need scissors and a ruler to tackle this, and I'll need to do it quickly in time for my first appointment.

Speaker: (TO AUDIENCE) So the wax strip is 12cm long and 6cm wide, and the face strips are 6cm long, and 3cm wide.
But this way round, the 6cm width is the same as the 6cm length on the shorter strips.
Right, so I know that the strips need to be 3cm wide.
So if I measure 3cm down the strips, I get 3 strips.
That's one down. 1 big strip equals 4 small strips.
Now I need to work out how many face strips in total I need to prepare.
Speaker 1: (TO AUDIENCE) So I'm preparing these wax strips.
I have to work out how many I need.
I know that I can get 4 small strips out of 1 large strip.
But now I've got to work out how many large strips I need.
We've got 4 clients coming in today for facial treatments and each one uses 4 strips.
So that's 4 times 4. So I need 16 small strips for today's facial appointment.
(TO OTHER PEOPLE) OK. So I've got the face strips for the first appointment.
Speaker 2: Now have you got the large strips as well, Lauretta, for these 7 full-leg waxes?
Speaker 1: Oh yes, I'll do that now.
Speaker 2: OK.
Speaker 1: (TO AUDIENCE) So I know that we allow 15 strips for a full-leg wax and I've got 7 clients booked in today.
So that's 15 strips per client. That's 7 times 15.
That's 10 times 7 is 70.
And 5 times 7 is 35.
If I add these together, that's 105 strips in total.
Now I must work out how many packs I need.
There are 20 wax strips in each pack.
So I divide 100 by 20.
That's the same as dividing 10 by 2.
I get 5. But I need an additional 5 strips because I need 105 in total.
So I'll add another pack. That makes 6 packets altogether and that will be plenty.
