QUESTIONS FOR EMMY THE GREAT
Ìý
Thanks for all your questions for Jon Ronson and your song suggestions too, they were all very much appreciated. Congratulations to Azrael (that a Smurfs reference?) who was the first to correctly identify the film clip in last week's show as being Brad Pitt doing his very odd Cherman exint in Seven Years In Tibet. You win a cheer and a nude jig. I am dancing and cheering as I type.Ìý
This week my guest is, for one week only, NOT a white bloke around the same age as me! I'm delighted to say that instead the super talented singer/songwriter will be joining me to talk rubbish and contribute songs to a tape of mellow music, which I'm thinking of naming Chill Cakes. If you have any questions for Emmy, tips for compiling mellow/chill out tapes or anything at all you wish to share do please contribute below. As ever I will read all your messages with interest and sing with joy and gratitude as I do.Ìý
Love Adam xx**oOoOoOo**xx

My favourite chill cake at the moment is The Postal Service's album "Give Up". Perfect for unwinding on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Mixes some nice generally upbeat electronica with the great vocal work of Ben Gibbard.

Failing that, what DVD boxset are you currently into? Your album makes references to 24 and Friends, I wonder if there's a new one in your life, of the life of someone close to you...

So glad you have Emmy as a guest on the show. She's my all time favourite singer songwriter. Her ingenious story telling style lyrics never fail to make me smile. Anyway, on to questions.
Obvious musician asking sort of questions:
1. Will you be touring soon, if so, whereabouts will you be stopping off?
2. Will there be any sort of special collaboration on the next album?
Uberfan question: In the song 'Snow' you created a language to describe how bored you were and then speak some of the language, were you actually saying something there or just randomly making funny little noises for the fun of it?
Other questioning:
If you could own any pet what pet would that be?
Do you collect anything?
What is your favourite muppet movie?
Okay, I think I'm done there. Hope the recording goes well. :)

Loving the show - particularly Louix and Jon rocking along with your formidable interview style. I do love the way you open the proceedings with the A&J agreed 'optimal interviewing method', but perhaps I could suggest an additional way of really getting to the crux of how someone thinks:
"Nature" - does your pee smell different after eating asparagus?
Vs
"Nurture" - did you parents ever play Chris Rea cassettes while you were growing up?
Now that'll sort the men from the boys! (or maybe the Emmys from the Greats?)

To start with you could use Crazy Tuesday or Idle Lover by thenewno2. The band's frontman is Dhani Harrison, son of the Beatle George, which is a fact I'm sure you can weave skilfully into your show.
Reel Big Fish have some nice and chilled covers, my personal fave is their version of Oingo Boingo's We Close Our Eyes (from the tribute album Dead Band's Party), but they've also done Talkin' Bout Revolution, The Long Run and Won't Back Down.
The Kaiser Chiefs have two good B-Sides from their Good Days Bad Days single, Acting Up and Addicted to Drugs - Appendix 1, the latter of which is a chilled version one of the songs from their third album.
Jonathan Coulton did a remarkably chilled cover of Baby Got Back.
Pike St./Park Slope and What You Live By by Harvey Danger are good, although they might be a little too chilled for you.
My last suggestion is Strange News From Another Star by Blur. I hope even if you don't play these on the show you enjoy listening to them!
Love you byeeeeeeeee

On The Beach - Neil Young. (you *have* to play that surely? But I'm sure you already thought of it, don't worry we'll say it was your idea man)
Although I like Will having suggested a bit of Radiohead, I can't help but think those particular two aren't completely 'chill cakey'. 'How to disappear completely (and never be found again)' would be perfect; for a certain kind of mellow though perhaps... maybe not the kind you're after.
(General suggestions):
Across the universe - The Beatles.
Goodbye Pork Pie Hat - Charles Mingus.
Porcelain - Moby.
Naked as we came - Iron & Wine.
+ Perhaps you've already planned on playing some ambient, but you really can't go wrong with Eno.

How about Guinnevere or Woodenships by Crosby Stills and Nash.
Man of the world - Fleetwood Mac
Feel Flows, In My Room, or Warmth of the Sun - The Beach Boys
Carpet Crawlers - Genesis
The Only Living Boy in New York - Simon & Garfunkel (Very mellow!)
Sunday Morning - Velvet Underground (nice and chilled for a Sunday morning/afternoon radio show!)
Saturday Sun, Chime of the City Clock or River Man - Nick Drake
After Hours - Rickie Lee Jones
Slow Like Honey - Fiona Apple
I think that's just about enough of that! I'm sure whatever you put on the tape, it will be great!
@Will - I like that version of Sweet Child O'Mine, just listened to it on Spotify.

Excited to hear Emmy the Great is your next guest. I had the pleasure of seeing her last week at the Barbican. She sang with an all female Mariachi band, including a woman with the biggest guitar I've ever seen (It was like a double bass round her neck). Fun night, but I was wondering if you could ask Emmy how she got involved? Not the most obvious connection to make between her music and Mexicanas trilling in spangly jackets?

Global Communication - 14:31 (the time of it, but also the title. Crazy)
Gorky's Zygotic Mynci - Cursed Coin/Sometimes the father is the son
This Mortal Coil - Song to the siren
Geneva - Museum Mile
Groove Armada - At The River
Burt Bacharach - Any day now
U2 - Promenade
Simple Minds - Somebody Up There Likes You
Blondie - Fade away and radiate
Fleetwood Mac - Albatross
Beethoven's 6th Symphony (aka 'Pastoral' don't you know)
Vangelis - To The Unknown Man/Himalaya
Wire - Outdoor miner
Joni Mitchell - Carey
The Bobster - Lay lady lay
Shins - Phantom limb
Jimi Hendrix - Wind cries Mary
Beatles - Flying
Zeppers - Tangerine
Kraftwerk - Neon Lights
VU - Sweet nuthin'
King Crimson (or Waldeck version) - Talk to the wind
Talking Heads - Heaven
Jean michel jarre - Oxygene 1/2
