Kayaking and the Day Of The Dead

Posted from:Machu Puente
Today Bruce hit the water for the first time. He was joined by Eric - a local Olympic canoeist for the Peruvian team. He guided Bruce by canoe through the spectacular Tres Canyones while we shot some wide shots as they paddled past Inca ruins. The light out here has a lovely golden warmth so is a gift to shoot in.

We spent the night in a local hacienda and instead of being kept awake by the cold, this time it was the constant breaking wind and smelly socks that made it hard to sleep as I'm sharing a room with the boys. All of us chose to sleep in our sleeping bags on top of the beds as the sheets look like they have a bio-system of their own living in them!

The next day Bruce and Eric spent a second morning paddling while we got some more dramatic landscape shots. In the afternoon we all headed off to an amazing-looking church and a graveyard set in a rocky valley.

Yesterday and today the locals celebrated Day of the Dead and we filmed Bruce walking around this amazing place. People are just leaving now, several tipsy relatives falling over drunk among the graves. We managed to get a small taste of this amazing spectacle: families honouring their deceased relatives and spending the last night sitting next to the graves all through the night. They take along their relatives' favourite items and it's a real celebration of the deceased person's life.
