F1 finally on brink of peace deal
Formula 1's governing body put out a news release on Friday afternoon confirming my report from Thursday that the sport is on the brink of a peace deal to end this season's political rows.
says that a new Concorde Agreement - the document that binds the teams, governing body the FIA and the commercial rights holders to F1 and defines their relationship - has been agreed and sent for approval to the FIA world council, its legislative body.
It adds that the should be ready to be signed by the end of next week - as long as a "satisfactory cost-reduction agreement is in place".
As I explained in my last blog, that is what is holding things up at the moment, with certain parties still arguing over the fine detail of the deal that will bring F1's costs down over the next few years.
At a news conference here at the Hungaroring on Friday, teams bosses Christian Horner () and Stefano Domenicali (), both pictured above, said that everyone was confident of reaching an agreement soon - within a matter of days.
Domenicali said he expected it to be done before all the teams' factories close down for two weeks between this race and the next one in - one of the initiatives for cost cuts.
So it really does look as if this is finally about to be put to bed.
Which will be a huge relief to many people in F1 - including me. Assuming I'm not being terribly naïve, it will be nice to be able to write about something else for a while. What's going on out on the track, for example.
