Complain about this postHey Annie
I saw a UFO once that streaked silently across the sky in front of my house when i lived in Hull. It fit the bill in that it was glowing, cigar shaped and ruddy nippy... all the usual UFO traits (according to the X files, that is).
I was so convinced that I'd seen something a bit odd that I rang 999 to report it to the police... some years later, I now feel like a bit of a berk for doing that!
I saw the "UFOs" of bestival this year - that was really cool. Kudos to whoever came up with that (but that could be said for the whole weekend couldn't it?!)
Pip pip!
Complain about this postI think the porblem with people thinking that the 'EMO' kids or whatever label you want to give them like 'Generation XYZ' ...whatever,... is in thinking that they are celebrating the emotional difficulties they are experiencing (and this is a bad thing).
In search of an identity, we flock to people who are similar to ourselves because it makes us feel less 'wierd' or 'abnormal'. We can begin to see that we are not alone in this confusing world that we live in.
My good friend Justin, lead singer/vocalist for the US band Blue October is actually touching millions of Americans through his often 'EMO'esque music. In fact their album 'Foiled' is due to go Platinum before the end of the year. He discusses those personal issues that are not your typical dinner table topics like attempted suicide, drug addiction, schysophrenia, clinical depression and self-harm holding nothing back in such a way that people can identify with him and finally recognise that they are not alone in their pain and idiosyncrosies. In fact hundreds have written to tell him that hearing their latest single 'Hate Me' was actually what kept them from ending their lives because for the first time in their lives, they knew.. they KNEW that others suffered similarly, that they were not alone!
However, Blue October doesn't glorify it. They discuss it out in the open because they are not ashamed and they want others to know that we don't have to be ashamed of who we are either!
I think the people putting the 'EMOs' down for wanting to openly discuss their issues with others who can identify with them are adding to the problem. They would rather sweep these EMOtions under the carpet. Perhaps they think we should be ashamed to feel.
I, for one, am not going to be ashamed to feel.
I, for one, am not going to be swept under the carpet.
I am not alone.... and neither are you!
Complain about this postHola Annie,
Life would be very boring, if we were the only species to live in the known cosmos, keep playing the thumpin tunes Annie and hopefully we'll get Contact!
As for the whole Emo debate, man, there will always be the clash of styles, opinions, ect ect; each to the own I say, music should not devide us, but unite us, period!
Adios

Complain about this postlove the show it,s grrreat could you put some fergie on i would love that thank you
Complain about this postthis emo stuff is sad it is just people who are in black all the time
Complain about this postemo does NOT stand for EMOTIONAL
we are the aliens. hasnt anyone figured this out yet?
Complain about this postThis is really crazy. I also have immediately thought of Blue October in connection with EMO. Justin touches the people with his lyrics and his music so much that you would never want to stop hearing it. I have read the following over the new album "Foiled" once:
Complain about this postYou can hear Blue October鈥檚 collective heart pumping, alternately breaking, healing and breaking again. It is a sound you won鈥檛 soon forget.
And this is what I think about EMO.
By the way: I'm from Germany and I'm listening to Radio 1 on satelite radio. And I love your show, Annie.
i thought i saw a 'UFO' once. my home slices and i were in some garden enjoying a ciggy when out of the blue this mysterious cylindrical (is that a word?) object flew through the air, sporting strange multi-coloured lights! it shat us up! turns out it was a lilt can being thrown at us by a passing herd of yob.
Complain about this postlovin the friday night feel but now i have nothing to do on thursday, bugger.
xXx
I saw the comments on Blue October, and felt I had to chime in.
If listening to heartfelt lyrics, emotionally charged themes, and brilliant music is EMO...then color me EMO.
Blue's music touches subjects both dark and sweet that so many can relate to that it almost becomes theraputic.
I like what you do here, Annie. Thank God for satellite radio.
Cheers from TX.
Complain about this postI'm from the U.S. and, I listen to Radio 1 on satelite radio. (Salutes to the satelites) And, I must say, your show, Annie? It ROCKS!
I was perusing your blog. And Lo and Behold! Imagine my surprise when I stumbled across a very familiar name!
That of the band: BLUE OCTOBER!
You see, I've been following these guys from the first song I heard played. "Calling You". Which prompted me to dive headfirst into their catalogue of songs.
Surprisingly, I was touched by every song I heard.
And, at "30 something" found music which truly made me "Feel not alone." And, I became a fan of music again.
So much so, that when I saw what has been posted about these guys.
That I wanted to take a moment from across the world to second (Well, "third" actually.) the thoughts of the other people who posted on Blue October.
For myself... This music has touched me more so than any other in my close to four decades on this planet. I find it more cathartic than anything. If that makes me "Emo?" Then I'm fine with the label.
If you haven't heard them yet. Do yourself a favor. And, make it a point to do so.
Once again, Thanks Annie!
Peace,
Gene
Complain about this postme and a friend watched 30 bright orange balls of light float from west to south on the 26 August 2006 at 9.30pm. it was mad. no sound or flashing lights and they were in a single column formation, and must of covered at least 3 miles. other people saw these from all over hereford but thier was nothing in the local papers of course because people get sared and it then turns into denile.
