rain rain rain
A seemingly endless wet weekend. it started on Thursday with the Ivor Novello Awards, of which I was presenting one...I was chosen to present the award for best selling UK single to the writers of Leona Lewis' hit Xfactor single. I was confused but happy to be there and be yards away from some serious characters, Elton John, Peter Gabriel, Cat Stephens and QUINCY JONES. What a man. The producer of Thriller and Bad, and one of my favourite disco records ever, Stuff Like That. It was an amazing awards show..
After that we went to the pub where we ran into Roots Manuva. He revealed that when he did the minimix for me a while back (do you remember? we rang him for his interview and he was watching the archery on telly and wasn't expecting to speak to us) he thought I was Annie Nightingale the whole time. Brilliant.
After Friday's show I ended up in a warehouse in london bridge to see 2manyDjs and Herve..it was mucky and sweaty and very loud but loads of fun..
and on Saturday I djed at a Ministry Of Sound night in Paris. It was so different to over here...a very swanky and shiny and clean club with lots of groups of really young lads having dance offs. Properly standing in circles doing early 90's rave dancing...the set up was amazing, check it out..

Last night after the show I sped up to Birmingham to play Custard Factory.. the line up was great; Erol Alkan, followed by Simian Mobile disco live and Pendulum as well. SMD have a big round table full of different synthesizers, samplers and electronic box type thingys and they run round the table creating this amazing set from this table like a couple of mad scientists. It looked great. I went on after them and was lucky enough to have the stage graced by a breakdancing streaker. If anyone has any pics please can you send them my way cos it made my night!And the whole time, in London, Paris, Birminham, it rained. Non stop.

ONE BIG WEEKEND
Highlights for me included,
the gig i did on the outdoor arena on saturday night.. getting a little freddie mercury and poncing around the stage with a microphone while the lasers lit up the crowd..
meeting dizzee rascal
the gig at the official aftershow at Feel, with my friends in the booth and Nihal on last minute MC duties..
Hugging a sweaty and dazed Beth Ditto just as she came off stage..
sharing some of James Murphy's pre gig tipple..(champagne and whiskey in a plastic bottle)

the foghorn that I attached myself to for most of saturday

the purple one..
Last night I was stretched across my sofa watching the L Word on my laptop when I got a call to see if I wanted to see Prince do a secret gig at KoKo's in North London.
An hour later I was there, the celeb count was great.. Matthew Williamson, David Furnish, David Walliams, Pete Burns (wrapped in a union jack!?!?!) to name but a few.
I've never seen Prince, I probably won't ever again. He played for about two hours. There was few too many slow jams for my liking, and alot of new stuff but I could have watched him dancing till the middle of next week. He is a proper mover, totally in tune with the music. There were two highlights..
At the end one of his singers belted out a version of Gnarls Barclay's Crazy while he climbed on top of a speaker stack and went crazy..then he jumped down and did a fevered rendition of Nothing Compares 2 U. Wow.
Half way through the gig he invited some audience members on stage. There's nothing more embarassing than watching people just like you and me, trying to 'feel the funk' alongside Prince on stage. One girl was particularly loving it, and quite fancied herself as a proper dancer... Prince slid up to her and let her plant a kiss on his cheek, after which he fell down on his back in a theatrical display of love. Then the girl decided to ..wait for it.. STRADDLE.. Prince and start grinding in his face while he is lying on his back.
It was an excruciating moment, that lasted about 3 seconds before the girl was forcibly removed from Prince and the stage (and probably the building) by 3 big burly bouncers. It made my night.

album The Reminder made me cry on the plane home from Ireland last weekend. Her voice is heartwrenching and the whole album is beautiful.
album is more playful and fun. It's proper bona fide electro pop music and soo good for dancing around to...
album Attack Decay Sustain Release and We Are The Night are both head to head in the public transport listening stakes. For some reason I have to listen to big banging music whilst on public transport. The Simian Mobile Disco LP is winning though... I keep going back to that..
Talking about Simian Mobile Disco..have you seen the line up for Radio 1's Big Weekend in Preston? It's off the hook! LCD Soundsystem, CSS, Calvin Harris, M.I.A, Mark Ronson, Maximo Park, Groove Armada, Bloc Party, Jamie T, The Twang, Cold War Kids, DIZZEE RASCAL, The Gossip, Klaxons?!?!?!?!?!
it's incredible! and that's just the bands that I want to see!
I'll be Djing at the afterparty on Saturday May 18th with Tongy and Simian Mobile Disco.. I'll be giving away tickets to this party on the MASH up on friday...
