Up and Coming Festival - Wychwood
I absolutely love festivals. I always go to them, not allowing the weather forecast to dictate whether or not I have a good time. Obviously good weather is always a bonus, but it’s not the be all and end all. The diverse music programme at festivals often has something for everyone where the atmosphere is upbeat, positive and loud.
Now in its third year, Wychwood brings its heady, family-friendly mix of pop, folk and world music back to the Cheltenham racecourse. Headliners are Fun Lovin’ Criminals and Levellers alongside Badly Drawn Boy, Balkan Beat Box, Eliza Carthy, Rodrigo y Gabriela and Ba Cissoko. And if that’s not enough you can visit and sample the solar powered Groovy Movie Picture House, have a soothing massage; treat yourselves to some amazing food and much much more.
The 大象传媒 Asian Network will also have a presence and having just entertained the people at Paradise Gardens, myself and Nerm are well and truly fired up about Wychwood Festival this coming weekend. We’ll be hosting our very own Asian Network stage on the Saturday night, featuring performances from… Catch 22, Anoushka Shankar, Bandish Projekt, Swami, Aziz Ibrahim and Transglobal Underground.
Oh, and I nearly forgot to mention the ‘Silent Club Night', which needs to be experienced to be believed! Myself, Nerm and Swami will be busting a move and playing some party tunes in the early hours of Sunday morning to a marquee packed full of festival goers with headphones on.
So my advice to you if you haven’t bought your ticket or made your mind up.............go on, join us and treat yourselves to a lovely festival, oh and camping is great fun too !!!!

All the Asian Network sessions were good, and Swami was the most exciting musical experience I've seen in thirty years... what a sound. Why were there no CDs on sale? Thankyou for bringing a genre to me I had not yet experienced live. Wow!

I stumbled into the Asian Network tent just as a rapper with a backwards cap, nose ring and long flowing blonde locks took to the stage alongside a handsome young singer with chin length black hair and a bracelet of wooden beads. They introduced themselves as being called Swami.
A mysterious DJ began to spin infectious electronic infused dancefloor beats with an irresistable bhangra backbone, and to my amazement, this three man act tore it up with an incredible mix of showmanship, passion, originality, and, most importantly, a collection of incredibly well written songs unlike anything I have ever heard, mixing hard-hitting raps with traditional Indian singing over a backdrop of sounds that would convince even the most introverted of wallflowers to get down and party.
Unlike a lot of acts at this festival who simply focused on their musical skills, Swami haven't forgotten the one key ingredient that keeps people interested - a well written, well produced, expertly arranged song with a roof-raising hook that you can't get out of your head for hours.
Swami are undeniably one of the best live acts I have seen in years and a force to be reckoned with - truly the Asian Network's secret weapon in showcasing Asian music to the rest of the world. Many thanks to the Asian Network for giving true talent like Swami an exposure to the rest of the world. I've found their MySpace page and will be at their next gig for sure.
