´óÏó´«Ã½ iD on message boards on 15th December
´óÏó´«Ã½ iD, the new system for signing in to ´óÏó´«Ã½ blogs, boards and communities will be deployed on all ´óÏó´«Ã½ message boards from Tuesday 15th December.
´óÏó´«Ã½ iD has been in use on the ´óÏó´«Ã½ iPlayer messageboard and Strictly Come Dancing messageboard for a while. If you've used these or a ´óÏó´«Ã½ blog you will already be using the new system.
From next week if you use a ´óÏó´«Ã½ message board you will be prompted to upgrade your account to the new system if you haven't already done so. The process of upgrading will be smooth and easy.
If you're a new reader and don't know what ´óÏó´«Ã½ iD is, Ian explains here. There are also for ´óÏó´«Ã½ iD.
Also do use comments on this blog to give feedback.

Nick, how can we go about complaining about persistent "comment-spammers" and those who have inappropriate user-names, surely there should be ways to complain at the account level and not just at the individual comment level?

Certainly during the POV "open dialogue" (sarcastic quote marks) hardly any POVers were aware a discussion was going on on many many blogs, and the biggest response to the "dialogue" (ditto) was, unsurprisingly, when a thread was posted about it on the TV Board - where most POVers exclusively hang out.
We have the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Board over at POV where announcements of an admin sort are generally made.
I can't see anywhere here /dna/mbpointsofview/ where it says go to blogs for any admin info.

Many of them have the messageboard pages stored in their favourites, and go straight there. Why on earth should they go looking for information about messageboards anywhere else?
Please remember that some people still find this whole internet thing a little bit overwhelming, and human nature is to stick with what we know. Service announcements should really be made on the service to which they refer.

So by that logic the ´óÏó´«Ã½ should have to make this announcement in every single (active) message-board thread, think about it...

They did it the other week about the 30 characeter names thing. All they have to do is tell each host to do one message for their boards. It's this sort of thing that the hosts are there for.
It really isn't hard, but it IS considerate.

How will that help those who have - as you pointed out - bookmarked a thread that they are reading/contributing to? Duh!

"Very few of us go to the main ´óÏó´«Ã½ Messageboard Homepage."
I never go to the ´óÏó´«Ã½.co.uk homepage, if I thus miss an important announcement (and thus are left playing 'catch-up') it's my problem and not the ´óÏó´«Ã½'s, if I don't visit the 'Market Data' pages should I expect the ´óÏó´«Ã½ to post the data here for example? Why should those who use the message boards have their hands held, are you really suggesting that those who use message boards are some how are not as 'able' as others?!

Knowing it exists for a start!
As to your other point: why should people who only use messageboards go anywhere else on this site?
One of the things that came out of the POV fiasco was that many messageboarders don't like blogs. They don't use them. So they won't seek them out.
But none of that really matters. The point is that information about msesageboards should be posted on messageboards It's logical, for one thing - that's where most messageboarders go, that's where the information is pertinent and will be well received. By posting the info here, as can be seen, the response is severely limited! It's just courtesy and good customer service to address the audience where the audience actually is, rather than expecting them to find you via some Internet ESP or something.

No, it's like a whopping great notice in the booking hall or ticket barrier of a railway station advising people to check the timetables for train alterations, those who climb over the wall onto the platform do so at their own risk of getting on the wrong train...

That is their problem then, it's like complaining that the ´óÏó´«Ã½ never report any news about Scotland when all one ever does is read the English news pages!
If people were suggesting that this information should have been placed prominently on the message board homepage they might have had a point but to expect the ´óÏó´«Ã½ to place the same message on multiple message boards is plain silly - anyone would think that the average message boards is someone so helpless that they need their hands held all the time...
