Round up, Monday 8th March
There's a about the implications for ´óÏó´«Ã½ Online of the ´óÏó´«Ã½'s Strategy Review:
The internet has emerged from a silo called "new media" to become a genuine third platform alongside TV and radio, and we can't continue on a track of aimless expansion... It's true that we had started some of this work, which is why we've closed or mothballed some sites already, but this formalises the next steps in line with a broader ´óÏó´«Ã½ strategy and sets out a clear and stronger ambition in this area.
Econsultancy has a useful summary of . Alfred Hermida has created
´óÏó´«Ã½ News have launched a season called Superpower today. Peter Horrock's blog post has full details:
We also aim to also reflect what is being said on the web about the season and about world events. Blogworld will highlight the best of blogosphere in multiple languages, while the ´óÏó´«Ã½ News website has partnered with the non-profit network of citizen journalists Global Voices to give different perspectives on the news.
And away from all this hurly burly Cole Henley has about ´óÏó´«Ã½ iD.

Also not mentioned at all is the public value test which the ´óÏó´«Ã½ has to conduct before closing a service down. They quietly forgot about that.
It's almost as if the vastly over-paid ´óÏó´«Ã½ management (half a million each on average) are trying to hide the fact that 6music is unique, high-quality and distinctive but also very low in cost.

Your post has drawn me out of long term lurking on the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Internet Blog Nick. Surely having posted a link to the strategy review in this blog you can't really justify critique of it's contents as off topic.
If it is off-topic, then you might need to help us lesser mortals know what is meant by on-topic.

Are you sure that this isn't just another "I would prefer that 'difficult' topics are not discussed here" rebuff to a legitimate comment?...

The Media Guardian interview linked to is not about radio or 6music. It's about the implications of the strategy review for ´óÏó´«Ã½ Online.
There are many other places to discuss 6music including the one I linked to above. I don't want this blog to become yet another one.
Constant arguing with the host, disputing editorial decisions on this blog and abuse of the host makes this blog a less pleasant and useful place for other people who may wish to discuss things which are on topic (e.g. ´óÏó´«Ã½ Online).
So rsf77 and boilerplated - will you please stop sniping. This kind of disruptive behaviour is against the house rules.

OK then...
"Senior staff from the ´óÏó´«Ã½'s online and technology teams discuss issues raised by you about ´óÏó´«Ã½ Online, ´óÏó´«Ã½ iPlayer, the ´óÏó´«Ã½'s digital and mobile services, and the technology behind them."
Last time I looked I can receive 6music on my DAB radio, internet and virgin media connections. Each of which I consider to be a ´óÏó´«Ã½ digital service and therefore within the scope of this blog. If it isn't then please clarify that box.
6music even appears in the tag cloud for this blog at the bottom of the page!
The original post states "Alfred Hermida has created a word cloud of the Strategy Review document."
One of the most interesting items in this - for me and many others - is the way this presents the strategy review and it's relation to the changing role of the ´óÏó´«Ã½'s digital radio stations. That's why it got picked up here on here.
Anyway, back to the 'online' content... what is the beeb planning on doing with all the rich content that we've paid hundreds of thousands to create and is now going to be 'switched off' in the 200+ sites that are for the chop? Given the recent press regarding the British Library struggling to maintain a record of our Internet presence it would be good to know how this could be preserved.

These now constitute legitimate web content which are not 'pages' but in old style ´óÏó´«Ã½ 'talk', 'programmes' There are of course extensive competitors including Your Tube. I assume the web only 'programmes' will included in the cuts and the ´óÏó´«Ã½ does not see the web as a distributive media for unique content in sound or vision. It would seem therefore that Canvass is a waste of money since you can get all you want on Free view.
The ´óÏó´«Ã½ 'local' offering at the web is at the moment poor and the limitations proposed will make it even poorer.... reducing it to news (usually at the moment mostly crime) and football linked from Sport. Note: "Sport" is not 'News'
Much of the current Sport site lacks links with ´óÏó´«Ã½ Broadcast output which seems to be the criterion for having a web presence. So I assume much of that will disappear except again for football.
I expect forums not linked specifically to broadcast programmes will also go like the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Blogs unless they can be linked to specific output. Nick Robertson will have to start by saying "as I was saying last night on ´óÏó´«Ã½ News at 9pm"... and comments will not be allowed on blogs.
This seems to be the implications which represent many of the things which Murdoch wants!

If for example the cookery recipes are to be discarded is this content not to be sold to another supplier and the money added to the licence fund. Surely the valuable content should be sold off (just like ´óÏó´«Ã½ Worldwide did to the magazines) and the rest should be transferred to ´óÏó´«Ã½ Archive

I note this week you launched the Beta ´óÏó´«Ã½ Homepage and that no longer features any of the ´óÏó´«Ã½ blogs.
Not only was it excluded from the customise options I did not even see any obvious links to the blogs from the Beta Homepage.
(I did post a similar comment but in an older blog /blogs/bbcinternet/2010/02/a_new_global_visual_language_f.html however I thought this current blog is more likely to be seen, at least by those not using the Beta Homepage!)

You shouldn't read too much into the fact that blogs aren't featured on the homepage beta. I've been reassured that "we're looking at more and more ways of integrating blogs across ´óÏó´«Ã½ online's output" and that the future of blogs at the ´óÏó´«Ã½ is safe.
Thanks
