´óÏó´«Ã½ Weather update: making detailed weather more visible on maps

Location labels on maps can be turned off to expose detailed weather patterns

The ´óÏó´«Ã½ Weather website was recently relaunched after a public beta. Senior Designer Mel Seyer has explained the UX journey and Jeremy Tarling has described some elements of the new technical architecture.

Last week I blogged about how we added colour to some of the temperatures on the site.

I'm pleased to say that we have been able to make one more change in time for Christmas: users can now turn the map labels off should they want to have a clearer view of the weather patterns. This certainly helps when looking at the whole country, where more information is shown in a smaller space and the labels can get in the way.

Amongst other work, we will continue to make ongoing improvements covering features like maps and saving favourite locations. We also begin work on a new mobile site in the New Year, so there is more to come on that.

Complete FAIL. If I access the site with by preferred browser (Firefox) all I see is a white screen, although ctrl+u shows HTML source. It does work if I switch to Chrome (ie I can see the info). I really shouldn't have to change browsers just to read the weather forecast. I guess I be sticking to a browser independent site like weatherbug.co.uk

I am using Firefox and it has loaded perfectly OK...

Much better, more detailed forecasting for my chosen region - a whole page devoted to it rather than a small area in the top left-hand corner!

    p.s. much faster in Chrome

by the way, whoops, in the ´óÏó´«Ã½'s infinite wisdom, their blog software strips out the target="_blank" tab. never mind, it wont work. Will have to just remember ctrl-click opens a new tab. just trying to be helpful!

With firefox the page has loaded really perfectly. Try to use small sized and converted pictures that will help you to load the whole page and the pictures faster.

Can we get the Midlands back on the national map in some way, please? It's not like there aren't ~10m of us here or anything....
