However, I did have to rearrange my evening slightly to catch the last one at the start of the loop (I can't actually remember the last time I viewed a programme live that I regularly watch!) only to find out afterwards that it was available on iPlayer. I wasn't happy! Will this new episode be available on iPlayer? Also, would it be possible, in future, to let us know in the blog post whether or not something is going to be on iPlayer?
Oh, and (a bit unrelated, I know) is there any update on when iPlayer will be available on Sky+ HD boxes?
With the Eastenders episode(s?), is there just one episode or are there separate ones for Monday and Tuesday? Also, will it be audio described (on Freeview)? I won't be watching but my best friend probably will want to, and while she still enjoys viewing on their main set, which can't do AD, she recently discovered that the bedroom set can, so she might choose to watch it in there if it's got AD.
Sorry for all the questions!
Thanks,
Sam

At 16th Jul 2012, Sam Jacobs wrote:@Sue, I think it's unlikely that the the ´óÏó´«Ã½ would bother subtitling content on a stream dedicated to interactive stuff, as, to my knowledge, very very few boxes can display subtitles and an interactive app at the same time—Freeview and Freeview HD boxes, with the exception of the now ancient Netgem iPlayer (no relation), can't even load the prompt, although some will offer to disable subtitles if you press text or the red button; Sky boxes show the prompt, but don't display subtitles while the app is running; Virgin Media boxes behave, I believe, in the same way as Sky boxes; and I don't know anything about Freesat but the platform is quite similar to Freeview so I'd expect the boxes to behave, in this regard, in the same way as Freeview boxes. For this reason, I don't think 301 even *has* a subtitle stream, although I can't give you a definitive answer for that.
*However*, content that's on iPlayer may be subtitled—but I didn't watch Casualty: Under Fire on iPlayer so I couldn't say either way. Same for AD, I simply have no idea.

HA! Freeview HD boxes were required, from the beginning, to have an ethernet port, but it apparently didn't occur to *anyone* to check whether the boxes were even physically capable of providing connectivity to MHEG apps, let alone require it and test for compliance! So we've ended up with the same situation as we did with Freesat HD, where many (most?) deployed boxes are simply incapable of running things like the Freeview HD MHEG iPlayer, and many (again, most?) of the ones that might be capable will never be updated to support them.
All in all, a complete fiasco, an utter joke, but there's nothing that can be done about it now.
