The Art Of Naming A Blog
Welcome to the Chart Blog, a place which aims to be less another lost corner of the interwebnet and more a friend, confidante, elder sibling and musical teddy bear to anyone with a love of the most popular records in the land.
Naturally, that is fighting talk, so to back up this outlandish claim, we're offering a heady brew of chart news, reviews, clapping, brainy pop features, mucking about, videos, sarcasm, picture galleries, clever-dick commentary (see 'sarcasm'), scientific analysis, pointing and giggling at pop stars, and getting a bit too excited about the brilliance (or otherwise) of modern music.
So, given all that, you can only IMAGINE the fun and games that everyone involved in creating this joy-machine had when we had to come up with a name for it, right?
It started off friendly enough, but then the bickering began, followed by huffing, stropping, and then finally full-blown tantrums. The rows lasted long into the night, then started again early the next morning, then went on again into another night, and so on. For weeks. And weeks.
Some people wanted something really whizzy and supersmart, like Chart-Pie, or Team Awesome, or ChartBoy! (with a picture of my head grafted onto a cartoon of a superhero's body...NOT pretty!).
Others preferred a more sensical approach. Their list included Open Chart Surgery, The Sunday Pop-le, and PopBlog, which became shortened to Poplog, and then finally Plog. We had to give up at that point before it disappeared altogether.
And then there were the ideas which came from the weirdo faction in the corner, who were all hanging from the door-frames in those hooked anti-gravity boots, which they claimed would help them think better.
Bearing in mind the best they could come up with was either Chart-Zilla, or Smells Like Team Spit (which featured a pretend pundit fella called Talky Popstein), it's fair to say they were very wrong about that. And we had to look at their bellies swinging about while they were thinking, which put everyone off their complimentary pastries and swanky coffee.
Anyway, after much arguing, a little bit of fighting, and just the tiniest smidge of scratching and spitting, we finally settled on Chart Blog, a name which is exactly as short and to the point as we aim NOT to be, when it comes to matters of a musical nature.
For a taster of the kind of thing you can expect, check out the Top of the Pops website, which was the laboratory in which Chart Blog was first synthesised. .
And watch this space for the first Chart Blog special report, which will be coming from ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 1's Chart Show Live, no less!
Lots of love,
Fraser (Team Chart Blog)
