Babyshambles - 'The Blinding'

BabyshamblesJust as champion athletes train to run about and jump over things, a music writer must hone their body and brain to the exact specifications of the track they're reviewing.

Listening to this song sober is wrong. I know this because I did just that, and it sounded a bit like musical sick.

But this cannot be so. For old Pete Doherty could never churn out something so humourless, heartless and very, very standard, could he? I knew that I had tap into the psychological mindset of Babyshambles to unlock the magic that I was somehow missing.

And so it is that your intrepid reviewer comes round in the foetal position, walls daubed with bodily fluids, a scrunched up paper ball in her fist. The secret to the track! Quick! Open it! It says: "This song makes my head break."

Oh. So it is categorically rubbish, then.

The song isn't great, but hey, it's not something that'll make your ears bleed. There have been far worse songs reviewed that have done better than this. Just for example, Embrace managed three stars and their music in general is just pretty awful. I'm not a massive Babyshambles (or pete doherty) fan, but I think you may have been a bit harsh!
