Gwen Stefani - 'Wind It Up'
Evidently Gwen didn't get the memo about the cool samples right now being from '80s pop songs. Possibly she just read an old memo from Jay-Z in '98 when it was briefly cool to crib from musicals.

So essentially what we have here is a sample of 'The Lonely Goatherd' from The Sound of Music bookending Gwen's idiosyncratic variety of white-girl funk. Bonkers, yes? As if Gwen ever does anything else. There's the usual tired product-placement for her clothing line, which we could do without, and the verses are dull in isolation, but as a combo somehow it works.
It's actually a case of an inspired use of sample holding up an otherwise bog-standard track, but for inventiveness and sheer bat-dropping craziness, we can't help but admire her Gwenness.
Resistance is futile.
