Matt Willis - 'Don't Let It Go To Waste'

Now the dust has cleared slightly on Matt's amazing (and not a little disgusting) win on I'm A Celebrity, it's time to take a look at his solo career once again and have a jolly good think about whether, amazingly nice bloke that he is, Matt's actually got it going on in the superstar talent department. In short, is he King of the Pop Jungle, or just a load of old Kangapoo?

Well, on the evidence in this single, it's a bit of both, sadly. The song itself is very nice. A great big lighter-waving power ballad, which showcases Matt's vocal range beautifully. Or at least it would if some bright spark hadn't seen fit to drench his voice in what can only be described as Dalek Reverb.

Now, I'm no expert in modern studio techniques, but there's some kind of weird en-plastification that they've done to his vocals which have left them sounding a bit...rubbery. Listen to the way he sings the word "car" in the chorus...kinda stretchy...surely that can't be all his own work, can it? Well, anyway, that and the fact that we really don't need a great big rock power ballad right now (specially not when 'Up All Night' is still rampaging around in our heads) count as points against.

Come to think of it, his voice was funny on that too. Must be a sound-mangling box you can buy....
