Omarion - 'Ice Box'

OmarionAs ridiculous, overblown, and downright silly as a lot of modern R&B gets, there's something terrifying about it when it goes over to THE DARK SIDE. Like when it's not just about the sexiness of whoever is doing the singing, it's also about how they basically don't think they're going to make it through this world if love is going to continue to go THIS bad on them.

I mean LISTEN to this song! It's pure doom in musical form. You've got these sort of booming washes of lost soul synths, the tinkling piano has to be Death's own ringtone, and these ring-wraith backing vocals which would send Scooby and Shaggy running off down that corridor with the really repetitive furniture for HOURS.

And then, presiding over the whole spooking match like a zombie Usher is Omarion himself, broken-hearted, burned, cast down in the fiery pit for all eternity and howling his pain to the very heavens. Only it's not pain, it's the inability to feel anything any more, because life is that rubbish.

Heck, look at the video...the sky is BLACK. I tell ya, when some people throw a tantrum, they REALLY go for it, right?
