Muse - 'Invincible'

MuseImagine for a second that you're not listening to a popular song, you are instead a hunter, and you're wandering through the undergrowth in search of some helpless animal (or, if you're a vegetarian, nomadic sprout) for your dinner. So far, your search has been fruitless, but you've just spotted some tracks, and they're fresh.

Do you immediately climb into a sherman tank and start strafing the trees with heavy artillery? No, you do not. You try and blend into the scenery, edge forward, while all the time inching your bow and arrow (some sprouts are skittish enough to run at the sound of a gun's safety catch) off your shoulder, ready to fire when - and only when - the time is right.

That's the Muse approach. Start like Travis or Coldplay...wafty guitar, a military tattoo on the snare...inching forwards...a little increase in volume here, a nudge of intensity there...wait until the target is in sight...take aim...prepare to fire...hold your breath...and...

BOOM! A stupendously silly guitar solo which sounds like weasels in a synthesiser, and immediately every living thing, from earthworm to shrub, squirrel to mighty oak, is vaporised, leaving a smoking crater nine miles wide and total silence, save for a tiny squeak, as the sprout, now cooked to perfection, topples to the ground. Yummy!

Course, one sprout is hardly a meal, is it? Time to get tracking again...
