My Chemical Romance - 'I Don't Love You'
For a band with as rabidly keen a fanbase as MCR, it's probably not the brilliant-est idea in the world to make any kind of critical judgement on a web-page with a comments box on it. In the same way that trying to redecorate the inside of a wasp's nest with bee-flavoured spray paint is not a clever thing to do.
So, before I stick my head above the castle battlements and put my enormous pink top hat on - the one supporting a great big target, and the words 'SHOOT ME HERE' in neon above it - can I just quickly state that MCR, uh, TOADLY RULE, and DO NOT SUCK, and stuff...yeah?
BUT, it just seems a shame that, given a whole album of astonishingly baroque, bonkers and properly ambitious gothic rock to choose from, someone in the MCR camp has chosen to release 'I Don't Love You' as a single. It's not that there's anything wrong with the song - it's a kind of cross between 'Yellow' by Coldplay and 'Everybody's Changing' by Keane - it's just that the 'Black Parade' album is stuffed full of singles which would totally re-write the pop-punk rulebook, and entirely change the view people have of the band.
C'mon...can you imagine hearing 'Cancer' in the Top 40 countdown? or 'Mama'? Or, best of all 'Teenagers'?
'Teenagers' would be amazing! It'd be like Mika had GONE BAD. It would be like an INVASION OF CAMP ZOMBIES ALL DOING MOULIN ROUGE DANCING AND HIGH KICKS. It would scare the BEJESUS out of the Daily Mail, and it would make Gerard Way look like the visionary leader of a great big black-clad white-face ARMY.
So, bearing that in mind, you can see why 'I Don't Love You' comes across as a little bit of a disappointment. Hopefully it will help the band to sell many copies of their record though. Cos that's where all the AMAZING songs are.
Now, where did I put the chin-strap for this bloody hat?

This song is AMAZING and so is the VIDEO and it IS just ONE of the MANY amazing songs on the album.
If you actually listen to the WORDS you will REALISE how beautiful it is.
I agree totally. I'm a My Chemical Romance fan and i really like this song but you're right, there are so many other tracks on their album that are better than this.
'Cancer' is a beautiful ballad while 'Dead!', 'This is how i disappear' and 'The sharpest lives' are packed full of the same punch that made the first two singles off the album so great.
As much of an MCR fan as I am... I have to say that this was a REALLY bad choice of song for them to release as a single. If they wanted to do something 'different' then Sleep or Disenchanted or even Cancer would have been much better... I Dont Love You, while being a beautiful song, is just... missing something.
I was surprised when i found out that that song was the next single, it's not my fav on the album, but a pretty good one.
Though you will be happy to know that Teenagers is going to be the next single.
This song is awsome!, infact Mcr are awesome i went to see them on saturday 24th ! it ROCKED!! we were all moshing! and just having a bloody good time! , i can wait for there next album! oh! if anyone is a fan of Green Day ! that reads this they have an album coming out in 2008 the sequal to American Idiot =D i cant wait!!! wooo

This song is fantastic, I'll admit the first few plays of the albums I skipped over it for the fact it didn't grab my attention, but it's really wonderful. But I totally agree, releasing Cancer or Teenagers would have rocked.
It's a bit disapointing, like when Pink released Nobody knows and Leave Me Alone(I'm Lonley) instead of Long Way to Happy or Dear Mr President.
I think this song is great. I only recently started listening to MCR, and this song really convinces me to carry on. I just think its great, the music, and the words, and the video is pretty good too!
The whole album is great! It's so different from the other two albums and im glad that they havent caught second album syndrome (second after becoming famous).
I agree that this was not the best choice of cong to be the next release but it's still great AND it is beautiful.

Yeah i do agree that they should have released teenagers or mama or cancer, but they released this because its probably the most mainstream song on the album and would be recieved well by a large audience. They are releasing teenagers next though which i think is when they will really reinvent chart music and take over the world!!! I think they just wanted to get more people listening to them before thy came out with something really different like teenagers or mama. Id love for tem to release cancr though because its a really beautiful emotional song that will touch the hearts of many, not just my chemical romance fans
I Dont Love You is AWAZING and the video is AWAZING with it!! All The songs on The Black Parade are AMAZING so it dosent matter whick one they bring out!
I 'TOADLY' AGREE!!! I've got the album and I HAVE TO ADMIT hearing teenagers on the radio, and watching my parents turn green, would just be, like, WOW!
I still LOVE the 'i don't love you', it's absolutely amazing! But its not the best song on the album...
The lyrics are still great! No matter how good the tune, if the lyrics are rubbish, the whole thing is completely pointless... I have not heard ONE MCR song with pointless lyrics... apart from intermission... WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT ALL ABOUT?

Just want to say, this song is very good... but ( being a MCR fan... i can say this wasnt the best choice.. i think that it will be in top 5 AT LEAST! but if they want the number 1 slot TEENAGERS IS THE ONE!!! it is such a great song and just brillient... THEY MUST RELEASE THAT ONE!!! ( and mama.. love that and it is just a classic for MCR)
i love mcr, theyr the best band in the history of best bands. iv liked them 4 years now and i must say that when i heard that this was their next single i was surprised, but that doesnt make it wrong that this should be released. the album is about the 'patient' right, and the point in this album is to make you realise that lifes to short to take it for granted so clearly they think that this is an important song. i dunno how deep u guys look into things but i know i do deeply (to understand their music u have to really look at it) and this song is more than likely to do with gerards recent breakup and how he realised he had to move on, even though it hurt so much. i recon thats the message theyr trying to get across, that you cant just stick with something cus its the easiest thing to do, and they know from personal expericene that this could be a big part of someones life so rightfully it should be released as a single.
anyway, for all you guys who wants teenagers to be released as a single i recon itll be the next one as this american girl i know said it was on the radio over there.

oh yeah and i competely disagree when you say they have released it as its the most mainstream song on the album. do you know why mcr formed? gerard witnessed 9/11. that made him realise that he had to make a differnce. they have made a huge differnence in my life. why on earth would they go releasing a song just to get more people humming along but not understanding, not having it effect them. most mainstream music is the most pointless noise for example most dont write their own music, let alone have meaning to it! people are calling them mainstream because they have done well, but thats not due to everyone under the sun liking them (as you probably know alot of people hate them), its to do with the fans like you and i they have helped through the tough times because unlike fans of pop etc we actually owe these guys for helping us, and they know that.

I don't love you is such a pretty song, and the vocals are great and the instrumental parts are also brilliant. I love all of the songs on their album and I don't mind which ones they release. I don't love you isn't my favourite one, welcome to the black parade is, but i still love it.
My Chemical Romance is an absoulutely AMAZING band. I've loved them from the beginning and i think i am going to forever. They inspire so many people and the lyrics to all of their songs are fantastic.
I DON'T LOVE YOU is such a great song and the video is one of their best.
If you listen to the lyrics you will understand it and it's such a beautiful song like every single one of their songs.

If you actually read what he wrote he didn't say it wasn't a beautiful song. It just won't make the impact on the sound charts and on the radio waves other songs from the album would have.

and gerard way is my idol.
so basically what im trying to say is this track is equally as good as all the others right back to 'our lady of sorrows' so 'heaven help us' they're all flippin' amazing. i saw them on the 24th, i was front line and touched gerard.

I didn't vew "I Don't Love You" as a disapointment, I see it as MCR's way of spreading their music from one genera to something altogether new. I loved it!
