Fall Out Boy - 'THNKS FR TH MMRS'

Post categories:

Fraser McAlpine | 10:50 UK time, Sunday, 1 April 2007

Fall Out BoyOK, being slightly above the age at which leaving out key letters in words is THE BEST FUN EVER, or RILLY EXPRESSIVE, ACTUALLY, it's taken a couple of goes to really get what Fall Out Boy are trying to say with the title of this song. 'Thinks Far, Thou Murmurs? 'Thunks Fry The Mammories'?

But I've got it now. It's a heartfelt plea on behalf of everyone who didn't suffer debilitating mumps, rubella, or measles in childhood, right? Which is just a way of paying tribute to all those hard-working GPs who administer the three-way MMR vaccine, despite an increasingly hostile media agenda and all the scare stories about possible harmful side effects.

It's not the most obvious topic for a rock song, granted. They're normally pretty self-involved and grumpy (rock songs, that is, not Fall Out Boy). But in an age of say-nothing celebrity, it's good to see a band are prepared to firmly take a stand and put themselves down on one side of a controversial debate like this one.

I imagine they've spent ages reading opposing scientific studies, carefully evaluating the evidence for and against, before making their decision and sticking to it, come hell or high water. Sounds easy? Well, not when they've got all that ROCKIN' to do too, right kids?

So, to show appreciation to the band for taking the time to highlight this issue, let's all make a big statement togther. If you're in agreement, or Fall Out Boy's powerful rock noise has swayed your opinion, maybe it's time to take a stand, to use the hidden power that lurks inside each and every one of us, and is only truly unleashed when we are all stood shoulder-to-shoulder, siblings of a like mind.

So, on a count of three, let us all stand as one mass and shout to the skies "Yes! Yes! Thanks For The MMRs! Without that vaccine we could all have been very poorly in childhood, and some of us would definitely not be here! There is still some controversy about possible links to childhood autism, but we, and Fall Out Boy, find that the compelling weight of evidence falls down on the side of the combined vaccine instead of three seperate injections, although no medical procedure this sort can truly be said to be without risk...."

Ready? One...two...THREE!

Extended metaphors and themes in reviews are fun. But this is just ridiculous... Eugh.

This review is shockingly bad. Why keep going on about the metaphors? Who cares that they shortened the title by leaving some letters out? This is meant to be a song review and not a song title review, so can someone tell me when they actually reviewed the song?

I think the song is great and Fall Out Boy just keep getting better.

    Matt
