The Fratellis - 'Ole Black 'N' Blue Eyes'

The FratellisOh. Look. It's. A. New. Single. From. The. Fratellis. How. Exciting. I. Mean. You. Just. Don't. See. A. Lot. Of. Those. About. These. Days. Do. You? They. Certainly. Aren't. Sticking. Every. Last. Song. On. Their. Album. Out. As. A. Single. Oh. No. Because. That. Would. Be. Wrong... Right?

So, irrespective of the fact that this is a perfectly nice rolling, swaggering, gentle sway-to-the-shops of a song, and that there really aren't any tunes on the Fratellis album which would make a BAD single (with the possible exception of the explicit 'Got Ma Nuts From A Hippy'), a stand has to be taken. A line has to be drawn in the sand. We as a nation have to rise as one, shoulder-to-shoulder, and say in a unified (and loud) voice...

"NO MORE! You are a PERFECTLY DECENT guitar pop band. A lot of your songs are VERY GOOD. This one, for example, is REALLY VERY NICE. But you have to accept the fact that everyone who wishes to buy your album has MORE than enough evidence to help them make their minds up. Six singles and one iTunes advert. SIX! From an album with only THIRTEEN songs on it...that's just tipped the balance from 'reasonable promotion' into 'just plain greedy'.

Have you not written any new songs yet? Eh? Come on, 'Creepin' Up The Backstairs' came out over a year ago. Surely you've something that's good enough to be a single since then, and not just extra tracks on an EP? No? Oh dear..."

Frankly, if you can think of a better use for the power of democratic action, I'm all ears..

I don't know if it's the Fratellis decision as to whether or not they release more singles. If their record label thinks that a profit can still be made off of releasing songs from their album, then it will be done. Nothing the Fratellis can do as such. Doesn't take away from this being a BRILLIANT song, and your rating shouldn't be decided by the amount of songs they've released.

Any song the Fratellis do is about 10 times as good as most of the stuff on the charts, and they should be given their fair dues! :)

[I didn't say it was the band's fault. I said it was a bad idea to test the patience of your fans with lots of singles coming out. And that naked greed DOES detract from the song, really. - Fraser]

its all very well and good getting the nation together, to "rise as one, shoulder-to-shoulder, and say in a unified (and loud) voice..." but dont you think itll be one of those situations where eveyone says it with slightly different timing so it sounds like a big mumble or a swarm of bees or somthing with the band shouting "what was that, i didnt quite pick up what you were saying....ah, they must be asking for ANOTHER single" just a thought maybe, i can see it now......

[Hmmm....well maybe it'll be OK if we all practise a bit - Fraser

ok, but the saying practise makes perfect is incorrect, perfect practise makes perfect is more like it (i stole that from the bbc test match special team, i recon its a good saying!)

another problem though, its a pretty big crowd you know, the whole nation..its going to be near impossible to find a day when EVERYONE is free for practise...great idea in theory

[I think once everyone realises there will be no more Fratellis singles from that album, they'll muck in. Spirit of the blitz and all that. - Fraser]

I agree. Too many releases! i love the fratellis but we need new material! and the video is crap. very crap.
Mind you, the view are off the same way...

Yes yes, we all are clamouring for new material. But c'mon, most bands only put out a new album every two years, so give them a chance! I believe they are on tour at the moment, and therefore don't have the option of going to the studio yet.

I agree it's somewhat of a bad decision to release SO many singles, but if their music is better than the other stuff on the charts, I'll happily accept another single off Costello Music.

true, they are releasing too many singles have came from the costello music album, and ole black n blue eyes isnt the greatest song on it, ive disagreed with my fair share of fratellis releases, but the view i have not, every single has been worth releasing, if they stop after face for radio, they will have timed it just perfect. hats off to the buskers is one of the best albums i have bought, same goes for costello music.

Although I agree six releases from one album is pushing it, this isn't a single as such but a 4 track EP which actually contains 3 new songs from The Frat's.

Reckon they've made the best choice in backing up the title track with new stuff and as usual they're all pretty high quality songs. They've also given away a brand new song recently on their official website so all in all I reckon they're a pretty generous bunch with new material, even before the next album.
