Funeral For Friendliness
*sigh* Y'know, it really doesn't do to get too full of yourself in this business we call show. And that's just as true if you're a little blog-writing person as if you're a great big rock band with lots of fans and a very busy schedule.
See these two pics above? You've got your Funeral For A Friend on one side, and the Subways on the other. And, as you will see if you read on, there's a really good reason why both bands are up there next to each other, and it's a story of frustration and being mucked about, but with a really happy ending...
So, here's the story. Last week there was a surfing and music festival on the north Cornish coast called Rip-Curl Boardmasters. By day, people rode the mighty waves on a bewildering array of giant floating panty-liners, by night, there was THE ROCK, and lots of it.
So, we sent ChartBlog reporter Hannah H over to Newquay to chat to Funeral For A Friend, who were headlining the Friday night event (supported by the Subways, among other people). The interview was pre-arranged via the usual channels, and we'd even worked up an hi-LAR-ious series of questions about extreme sports, in honour of the event itself.
Unfortunately, FFAF proved to be more than a little tricky to pin down. They were either eating, or relaxing, or seeing other bands, or getting into their pre-gig headspace...for FIVE HOURS.
Thankfully, Billy and Charlotte from the Subways, who also had a gig to do, were a smidge less precious about the whole thing, and seeing poor Hannah stuck there with no-one to talk to, agreed to do the interview instead. That's what you call helpful!
What I Expected: Well, if I'm brutally honest, if an interview has been arranged with a band, I kind of expect to hear the interview with that band. So I guess what I expected most was, y'know, FUNERAL FOR A BLIMMING FRIEND!
What I Did Not Expect: What, did you not read the bit above? I didn't expect THE SUBWAYS! And I had totally forgotten how lovely Billy and Charlotte from the Subways are. They're just about the nicest people in the entire music business...and I've MET Travis.

Here's a gallery of pics from the concert. The FFAF ones are from a considerable distance further away than the Subways ones. Can you guess why?
Your ChartBlog interviewer was: Hannah H
PS: BRILLIANT VIDEO ALERT! WOOP! WOOP! BRILLIANT VIDEO ALERT!
This video is taken from ChartBlog's official favourite music TV show in the world. It's called Pancake Mountain, and it is brilliant because it does not think that children only like music for children. The Arcade Fire have been on Pancake Mountain, and this is because WHY THE HELL NOT?

Why don't you just FFAF off and pick on someone your own size!
I'm sure that the band had perfectly valid reasons for blowing off your alleged reporter.
They probably had strawberry flavoured [you can't say that - Fraser] to ingest, a bout of [or that - Fraser], some Thai ping pong [gah! - Fraser] to play and an entire album of stultifyingly dull indie snore rock to record.
AND ONLY FIVE HOURS TO DO IT IN.
The wee scones.
loving the pics.. the captions tickled my insides :D
whats got mr hamiltons goat? hes not related to he band, is he?
why were FFAF at a surf event when matt hates water anyway? when i listend to the interview it KEPT starting and stopping but did i hear correctly that the subways have surfed before? ah well, my point is the subways seem more worthy than FFAF to have an interview. they seem like very nice and friendly peoples :)
opps, i mean mr/mrs/miss hamilton :S sorry
[I may be wrong, but I think S Hamilton might have been a little bit joking for some of what she/he/it had to say above. - Fraser]
I may well have been joking about [you can't say that] to ingest and a bout of [or that], but it looks like Thai ping pong was right on the mark!
[I'm going to contine to pretend that I have NO IDEA what you're talking about - Fraser]
its hard to show when youre joking or not on a computer.. one of my friends uses '(!)' to resemble sarcasm, i think its a good idea.
That was a good entertaining interview and i second the photo's being funny. Too bad ffaf were loosers.I think the subways seem much cooler anyway without all the welsh arrogance.
