Sean Kingston - 'Beautiful Girls'

Post categories:

Fraser McAlpine | 10:30 UK time, Friday, 24 August 2007

Sean KingstonI can't remember the last time I heard a song which is as guaranteed to create strong reactions as this one (actually I can, it was the Crazy Frog). There are just SO MANY things you can get yourself in a tizz about within the bars of this little gem. So, for the benefit of international tranquillity and goodwill, here's a handy exploration of some of the bigger ones, together with a some hints for dealing with any sudden rage issues which may arise.

First of all, I think it's very important that everyone familiarise themselves with the song itself. So, speakers on (or headphones at the ready), let's DO THIS THING...

Everyone alright? If you've had any adverse reaction to this, try and take deep breaths, IN through the nose...count up to four, and OUT through the mouth...count seven...

OK? Right, here come THE ISSUES...

ISSUE ONE: The sampling of 'Stand By Me' will cause rocksnob coronaries all over the world. Not that it takes much to make a rocksnob freak out, but if you find yourself getting huffy, it's important, before the blood pressure starts to rise, to remember that this song hasn't cancelled out Ben E. King's original in any way. It is still available to buy, and on all the oldies radio stations. So don't get offended on Ben's behalf.

ISSUE TWO: Apparently beautiful girls aren't very nice to their men. And some of them can be so nasty that they leave a trail of suicidal fellas in their wake. Handsome blokes, on the other hand, are all LOVELY and never do anything wrong ever, right girls?

ISSUE THREE: Peter Andre is going to want his voice back, Mr Kingston. And when he does, he's not going to be impressed if you've left it all flattened out with that robotic auto-tune Cher machine. Human voices don't actually sound like this, you see. Which leads me to...

ISSUE FOUR: Sampling 'Stand By Me' is one thing, sampling a MIDI file of a ringtone of 'Stand By Me' is something else. Seriously, some production work on this would have killed you?

In the spirit of international calm, and because some of the melody is really sweet, I'm not even going to put up a damning star rating. If you hate this, you'll be in good company, and if you love it (and you can prove your ears aren't gummed up with jam), fair play to you.

I'm off to practise my yoga now. PEACE!

for a minute i was starting to think that you might actually like this hideous song...
nothing against anyone who likes it though..
still, i have a feeling that it will chart inside the top ten...it's number one in the us after all, and even " do yo know" was a top ten hit...so that's proof that anything is possible...right..?
have a nice holiday! ( hopefully somewhere nice and sunny:))

    This song makes me suicidal.

Any one of the above "issues" could be coped with if the song had anything going for it, but all those problems together?

It's unoriginal, derivative, repetitive, misogynistic and banal. In addition to which the singer can't keep in tune without a machine so surely breaches the trades descriptions act.

Apparently when Scott Mills (Radio 1 DJ) was in america he heard this song every five minutes on the radio and now he can't get it out of his head. He wakes up with it every day.I like it but it is a bit annoying isn't it? It probably won't get to number one cos we are more tougher than the American's. I mean that we've got better music taste than them. Have a nice holiday. :)

Is it just me, or does every car that goes past play this song REALLY awesome-ly loud on the stereo? Its really annoying. I think its just the same car that drives past my window every 10 minutes (or every 5 minutes when it's late at night) and plays this song ultra-loud to annoy me. Well, whoever it is, its working!

Ha! so it's you that drives past my house every day and night blasting this song out really loud! lol....only joking. And yes, it is catchy, but I still don't like hearing it every 5 minutes of the day and night. No wonder I'm so tired in the mornings....I cant ruddy well get to sleep :) Oh well though. I'll tolerate it, because so many people like it I can't slag it off. And it is quite a catchy and fun summer song for those that like these sorts of songs.
