Will.I.Am ft. Fergie - 'Got It From My Mama'

Will.I.AmQuestion: Does it still count as a solo career if your song sounds exactly like the sort of song you would put out with your day job band, and contains a guest appearance from the singer in your day job band, and it's basically one of your day job band's biggest hits, only done worse, and in an (even) more remedial, drooling...THICKER THAN JADE GOODY'S HOMEMADE CUSTARD sort of way? At least Fergie's solo hits have tended to feature just Fergie. If Will's solo hits feature Fergie too, what's the point?

Anyway, minor points of song-filing aside, does the world really need a lyrical re-tread of 'My Humps', only from a man's perspective? A man who wishes to point out that sexy ladies grow up to have sexy daughters (and still stay sexy), while ugly ladies grow up to have ugly daughters (and still stay ugly). Is this what we NEED right now?

I mean, look around you. Those twins out of Big Brother are releasing their cover version of 'Barbie Girl' soon, not because of evil record companies attempting to cash in on their ditsy public reputation, but because it's their favourite song ever out of ALL of the world of music. Which is fine, but if you consider it next to the fact that the winners of that Dance X show are also releasing a song, it's surely an indicator that the end of the world is nigh.

"Hey, Mr ChartBlog dude, lighten up, yeah?", I hear some of you gasp, "it's just a fun song. And what's wrong with a bit of sexy in your pop, eh?". A fair point, and one I'd have totally gone with when 'My Humps' came out. But this isn't 'My Humps', this is 'My Record Company Need Another 'My Humps', Will This Do?', and that's when all the fun starts to curdle.

Course, to my way of thinking, all Will had to do was keep the backing track, an attention-grabbing tapestry of churning guitar, dramatic synth-strings and go-go bells, write the song about almost anything else in the entire world, and we'd be laughing. And clearly he doesn't need to listen to some chippy British blogger when he's putting songs together...

....but with the dark clouds massing over all popular culture as we know it, sooner or later he's going to have to answer to a higher power than me (no, not Popjustice), and when he does, I just hope he's ready. The rest of us are just going to have to batten down the hatches and prepare for THE POPOCALYPSE.

Only *your favourite pop star* can save us now. HIDE!

*claps hands* SPOT ON. However I would have given it 0 stars. This song obviously lacks effort and is dripping with an unbelievably sexist message that makes me want to kick Will I Am in a place I'll let you figure out for yourself!

Fergie has gone solo and done awfully well for herself, anybody who manages to get the dude who plays Peter Petrilli in their vid deserves a round of applause from me, even if her songs are awfully boastful.

Will I Am needs a one way ticket out of popville.

fergie isn't on this song its a girl group will.i.am formed.

[I've seen it credited as Fergie, and Nicole Scherzinger, and now this girl group. Sounds like Fergie though, dunnit? Whoever it is... - Fraser]

The lyrics to this are really sexist and superficial.

**Will I am** not, but I can tell you that I am so excited for his album to come out. Have you heard the sneak peak preview? If not, you have to hear it. I think that you can go here to hear his album before it comes out.

I truely hate this song... like I have really bad taste in music generally (i'm not going to pretend i don't: i loved my humps), but even I who am easily swayed after a few listens on the radio, can't get over the general stupidity and mediocrity of this song. The only thing that would make it do well is if people start with that dumb catchphrase: "I got it from my mama, I got it from my mama." Arghhhhh!!!!!! Will.i.am has done good work for other people, pity he couldn't for himself...
