Dude 'N' Nem - 'Watch My Feet'

Dude N NemWe've all seen the news reports about childhood obesity, right? If the worst fears of nutritionalists are realised, we're ALL going to be rolling down the street like sumo wrestlers in elasticated-waist trousers within the next nine minutes (it's something like that, a bird flew into the window while I was watching it, so I might have missed a few crucial details).

Anyway, for the good people of the US of A (hip hop fans in particular), help may well be at hand in the form of (as they used to say in the olden days) the new dance craze which is sweeping the nation, daddio.

It seems that the years of listening to slow, droney, stoned, head-nodding beats have driven frustrated hip hoppers back to the roots of the genre. Back (in the day) when you'd put down a flattened-out cardboard box on the street, whack an electro mixtape on your boombox and attempt to grind the cardboard into the concrete using your forehead, while your mates would skip about in a line behind you, looking stern and awaiting their go.

OK, possibly this is the suburban UK version of what break-dancing was like in the '80s, but according to the people behind this catchy little ditty, those heady days may be coming back, in the form of a new wave of hip hop dance crazes.

One of these, which the press-release is calling jukin', or footwork, developed in Chicago as a reaction to Juke music - a mixture of hip hop and speeded-up house music. The faster pace demanded speedier moves, and soon clubs were filled with fleet-footed boot-swivellers, dancing like Jack Penate after a protracted coffee binge. Look at this lot!

Which makes this one of those rare occasions where it's actually better to watch the video while you're listening to the song. Somehow the combination of super-basic twin-speed house-hop and flailing limbs gets across just how exciting the whole thing is. Take away the visuals, and you're left with a slightly odd novelty rap tune which doesn't really take off until the tempo doubles.

With any luck, this kind of thing could do to the young rap fans of today what it did for the proto-hip hoppers of the early '80s, get them out in the fresh air and doing exercises. Who said music isn't good for you?

Combine this with the official cure for cancer*, and we will have the fittest, healthiest people on the planet. Then we will start to defeat the furriners at all major sporting events, the Union Flag will be hoisted high across the globe, people will start clamouring for a wise and benevolent ruler from afar, just like in ye olde days, printers will be stocking up on red ink to recolour maps of the world, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth will be Empress Of India once more and we will be Great Britain again!

*The report from the World Cancer Research Fund has recommended 10 ways to help avoid cancer:

    Don't catch the cancer
    Don't get fat
Don't sit in the one place for years at a time
Don't put full fat coke in an intravenous drip
    Don't live off Big Macs
    Don't kill a cow
    Don't get bevvied
    Don't lick anyones oxter
Breastfeed exclusively for six months (adults as well)
    Don't do the hustle

Follow these rules and you can become immortal like me.
