Lee Ryan - "I Got Bored Chopping Carrots..."

Forgive the momentary indulgence, but back in my Top of the Pops days, an interview with Lee Ryan was always something to look forward to. Quite apart from the fact that Blue were HUGE, and therefore terribly important, Lee did us all the favour of acting like a proper pop star - meaning he was a mixture of arrogance, silliness, Tigger-style glee and charm, and that he was prone to making daft statements, and generally taking himself WAY too seriously while at the same time taking absolutely nothing else seriously at all...unless he wanted to, or he felt it would make him look good, or raise a giggle.

Containing all of these extremes is not something to be taken lightly, by the way, plus the man was VERY good at it!

So, having turned his back on those giddy heights for a relatively quiet time getting his film career together in LA, only to come back with a charity single (hey, he's not been living Victoria Beckham's life by mistake, has he?), the question was whether the essential Lee Ryan-ness of Lee Ryan would have been toned down by his years away from the tabloid gossip columns.

Only one way to find out...to the Blogphone!

Lee RyanWhat I Expected: How can I put this? Lee was always the member of Blue who was most likely to a) say something ridiculous (and dim) and b) drunkenly kiss/hit a hot girl/paparazzi photographer/the floor, so I was quite looking forward to re-experiencing the madness...
What I Did Not Expect: He seems to have grown up a lot...Lee's new band, who do sound quite startling...he's living in LA, and he's producing films, y'know..."I'd like to say that I thought Blue were a little more cooler"...

Now, there's two versions of this, because actually when it came down to it, we just got chatting about his recent endeavours, which was nice, but may not enthrall anyone with a merely casual interest in Lee's post-Blue career. So, here's the fan version...

But the really key moments happen right at the end. So here's a version where we just skip to the good bit. You can sort of spot when it arrives too...

Here's the video for 'Reinforce Love' which was released on December 10th in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity and CLIC Sargent, a charity for children with cancer.

(Can you tell that this was put on YouTube by a fan website?)
