The KillersIt’s Chrrrriiiiiiiiiiiiiissssstttttttmmmmmmmaaaaassssssss!!!!

And if I hadn’t just spent three hours ordering presents and creating a corresponding spreadsheet with per-person cost breakdowns and estimated delivery times, I’d have had time to do some research on Christmas songs of yore and what they say about the times that we’ve lived in.

But as much as I love Christmas and as much as I cherish my collection of Christmas albums (Slade! Spector! Band Aid!), I’m not sure how relevant they are to my experience of Christmas, especially now that I’m all growed up. I mean, look at the list of festive greats: 'White Christmas': (it never snows), 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' (although you could have bought me something, tightwad), 'Happy Xmas (War Is Over)' (your ignorance on the subject of world politics disgusts me).

As anyone who’s entered a shopping precinct on Christmas Eve will testify, 'Joy To The World' is not a fitting tribute.

So kudos to the Killers for donning their Christmas jumpers and penning an ode which encapsulates post 9/11 paranoia and 21st century malaise via a song about a psychotic vigilante Santa (he knows if you’ve been bad or good and he’s got a bullet for you either way). That’s my Christmas!

To a rising clatter of pianos, a desperate wail and some Bing Crosbyesque fireside interludes, 'Don’t Shoot Me Santa' tells you everything you need to know about the 21st century festive experience.

Seriously, trust no one. Least of all a man who lowers himself into your house in the dead of night, and whose detailed knowledge of your life’s activities indicate at best, identity theft, and at worst, a lifelong obsession that could only ever have ended in bloodshed.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Finally, some americans with a sense of irony, I'm not sure I can deal with the concept!

It's a great tune, The Killer's just have to be the best American band of the decade.

Plus, Brandon is looking damn fine, even in his festive knitwear!
