Los Campesinos - Aleks arrowed

It's fair to say that ChartBlog's relationship with this band is not going the way these things normally tend to go. For starters, our first interview was one long squee-fest between their singer Gareth and myself about a lot of time-obscured indie bands. We then exchanged email addresses, and even met up at a LC! gig in Exeter.

Sadly the emails died away, and things started to sour a little (there's more on this in the interview itself), but the band's album is a cracker, full of giddy thrills and sharp one-liners, so it's impossible to stay bothered for long.

This was the background into which an interview with the band's OTHER singer - the very lovely Aleks - took place. Can you feel the love in the (cyber) room?

AleksWhat I Expected: We already know that the Campesinos! are among the nicest people in the pop world, but beneath their pleasant exterior lies a steely resolve (probably), so it could've gone a bit frosty, I spose. Also, I really did want a load of good book recommendations. You can never have too many of those.
What I Did Not Expect: It's fair to say that you don't often hear a ChartBlog interviewee say something like "if the ChartBlog audience can't handle whores". Especially not if this is not a tale of rock 'n' roll debauchery and actually refers to the title of a book. And then there's the whole Gareth email scenario, which probably reflects badly on all the people involved, especially me!

PS: Any complaints you may have about the whore thing, do send them in to the comments box below, and I'll get them out to Gabriel Garcia Marquez's peeps, pronto.

Here's the video for 'Death To Los Campesinos!', which was out on Monday...and no, I did NOT write the lyrics...
