Does It Offend You, Yeah? - 'Epic Last Song'

Does It Offend You Yeah? What? This is their last song? Ever? Already? Surely they should have waited until slightly further into their career to put it out? I mean it's a good note to end on, it being a song, and a bit epic - although really, if it's an EPIC epic song you're after, particularly one which has named itself after how massively gargantuan it is, you're going to want . But still, you can overdo the false modesty of not wanting to outstay your welcome...

(Bah! I really shouldn't have gone to look for that video link. Now I've got Faith No More on, and really, I should be playing DIOYY again and again, tracking down all the hidden nuances and interpreting each beat and squeak. Pulling together all the loose threads and creating a little patchwork quilt of organised thought. What I'm ACTUALLY doing is marvelling at how young Mike Patton looks, and being discomforted by the bit with the fish at the end of the video.)

*some time later*

Right, so this song by Does It Offend You Yeah?, I'm am SO ready to talk about that!

I'll admit that this might be the post-Faith No More deflation talking, but this isn't really all that, is it? I like the pounding chorus, the emoting, the lack of wacky musical hand-brake turns and the background wash of pounding piano, buzzybee synth and recordings of someone torturing Sweep from out of Sooty and Sweep.

Sadly the song itself is a bit puffed up and therefore a bit empty. Not to Snow Patrol levels, of course, but enough to allow you to enjoy it for now, all the while knowing it won't quite make it to those end-of-year 'Best Single' polls, because there's always something better around the corner.

Maybe they should get back together and make up some more songs, and quickly...
