Perfect Playlist - Love And Marriage
Time for another wallow around the backwaters of your music collections, people, and this time we're going for a specific song to suit a very specific occasion.
I want you to imagine you're directing a film in which you've got a handsome hero-type man, and a beautiful lady and they've been through all sorts of crazy capers (these can either be funny capers or terrifically exciting and dramatic ones), only to come out the other side unscathed and very much in love.
The next scene in the film is the wedding scene, you know the kind of thing - white dress, dad, a slow walk up an aisle of some sort... It's a scene which has been played out in films many, many times, and frankly, by now, that 'Here Comes The Bride' thing is getting more than a little bit tired (for use within films, that is. In real weddings it's still lovely.).
So, what we need to do is come up with a super-romantic, super-swoony, super-epic sort of a song which will have young women up and down the country nudging their boyfriends and going "I'm SO having that when we get married", while the blushing boys act all hard, like it wouldn't matter to them either way, and rub their eyes and mutter about the amount of dust in the cinema.
Here's mine, and I make no apologies for putting up the We Are Scientists cover rather than the Sigur Ros original (thanks to killaexzbit for making the mashup video).
Either one will do!
We Are Scientists - 'Hoppipolla'

Divine Idylle
Horribly rough translation of the lyrics by me:
In hopeless longing,
on two fragile wings,
I found you
divine idyll*
the love that began
on an ethereal breath
my madness, my desire, my obsession, my divine idyll
I stole you a quill
to write out a poem,
by the light of the moon**
my ideal companion
My ideal man
like a fatal wound
my madness, my desire, my obsession, my divine idyll
My heart rides upon the waves
and madness stalks my dreams
my heart's on fire,
sparks igniting me from your eyes
my madness, my desire, my obsession, my divine idyll
My French isn't what it used to be.
*I don't really know how to translate this word, I assume she means like 'idyllic' rather than 'ideal' so that's the way I've done it.
**The original lyric is 'au clair de la lune' which I assume is a play on the nursery rhyme

This is a little obvious, but come on...I think I'll play it at my wedding. There's a bunch of WL songs you could choose, "My Love" or a slightly lesser known one "Written in the Stars"
Busted-"Crashed the Wedding"!!!!!
This song is only allowed if the bride and the groom have a sense of humor.
Diamond Rio- "That's How Your Love Makes Me Feel"
This is country, so I know people won't like it, but it's really cute and bouncy and talks about ice cream.
Looking at these, they're not so normal...less of the slow dance songs than the ones you play after that!

Or perhaps 'Bedshaped' (the Vittorio Grigolo version preferably!) or 'Groovey Kind Of Love' by Phil Collins.
Personally, if I was to ever get married (providing that I can actually find someone daft enough to actually take me on!) I want 'Wonderboy' by Tenacious D for my wedding march! ;-)

before i was cruelly heartbroken - I wanted 'gravity' by embrace played at my wedding, either that or i wanted to walk into the room to diana ross' 'im coming out' - dont think i was entirely serious about that one..
i would def (altho its unlikey that i'd get married) want something that is not 'expected'. I like the song 'everything under the sun' by a band called common rotation, but i'd be in two minds to use it as no one would know it bar about 1 person i know.
Actually, altho no one really seemed to like Melanie C's second album, I always loved the title track 'Reason' - simple piano track that was honest and beautful.
can we have a topic on funeral music too :P i've got loads for that!

Made perfect sense to us as I used to be in the Army and she sent me this song while I was away on tour.
The lyrics were just perfect for us.

Both were perfectly fitting for a fantastic day and would be great in a movie.

The song talks about a couple in love but it also talks about their arguements and adventures.
