Bullet For My Valentine - 'Waking The Demon'
Oh boo! For a while there I was sure that this song was called 'Walking The Demon'. And I don't know about you, but for my money, there just aren't enough songs about taking your pet devil for a stroll of a morning. Picture the looks of surprise, fear and admiration on the faces of your neighbours as you put the collar on. Imagine the shock, awe, and mild disgust as you invite your satanic pet to do his business on a spare patch of grass, and then put on oven gloves to scoop it up and dispose of it.
Surely this is exactly the kind of subject matter that the metal fraternity have been crying out for? It's devilish, it's about leather and and studs, it's got poop in it. But no, Bullet have decided to wake their demon instead. Bah!
Mind you, if you WERE walking a demon while listening to this song, you could easily go around the block - no matter how big - in a matter of seconds while trying to keep up with those galloping, thwack-hammer drums. Even the slow bits are fast, and the fast bits sound not unlike when you're in a car and you have the windows on each side open just enough to create that doppler-effect noise in your ears.
Try and match that, and your poor wee beastie would be half strangled before you even got to the end of the road. And there's really nothing worse than a demon in a huff. They're so mean!
Also, the guitar solos are amazing. They sound like a sack full of really old monophonic mobile phones, all doing a ringtone each, only sometimes the notes happen to form little harmonies. It's really quite distracting once you've got that picture in your head, especially as Matt Tuck and his fret-twiddling mate probably spent ages working all their little bits out.
But that's metal for you. Preposterous and hilarious and terrifying, all at the same time.

I was glad he didn't get the girl in the end, in a lot of ways but seriously, there must have been a way to make him look more scary as a werewolf; the rest of the video's quite well done and the band actually look quite cool but that bit's just laughable; a CGI wolf would have been better.
